Jimmie Geddes, from Gadgets On The Go sent me an application called ClockOnTop which allows you to add a digital clock to the top bar (known as the taskbar) of Windows Mobile. It adds a feature that should have been there by default. The original developer is someone by the name of Huangda.
Download ClockOnTop
EDIT (Update 1):—————————————–
I forgot the most important part. I assumed everyone already knew how to do this.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Backup first (never hurts to backup)
2) Open ActiveSync > Tools > Explore Smartphone. Double-click My Windows Mobile-Based Device in the Mobile Device window.
a. If you want to store the file on your Device, open My Documents and place ClockOnTopQVGA_WM5.cab file in that folder.
-or-
b. If you want to store the file on your Storage Card, open Storage Card > My Documents and place ClockOnTopQVGA_WM5.cab file in that folder.
3) Using the provided File Manager, browse to the location of the file on the Storage Card or Device in the My Documents folder. Open the file. It will ask if you want to install it on the Device or Storage Card. Being that the application is going to run from boot time, I recommend you choose Device.
4) Once complete, if you want the 12-hour format, you will need to replace the ClockOnTop.lnk in the Windows > Startup folder with the one in the ClockOnTop ZIP file. Make sure the ClockOnTop.lnk file is in that folder before placing the replacement lnk file in there.
5) That’s it. Enjoy. ![]()
The standard format for the clock is in military time (24-hours).
To put the application in 12-hr format, place the extra LNK file in ZIP in the \Windows\Start Up folder. Make sure to run the ClockOnTop application so that you replace the file that is placed in that folder. Then reset. You should see the 12-hour format and a foreign symbol of some kind. The 12-hour format tip was posted at XDA-Developers forum.

24-hour setup (Default)

12-hour setup (Requires extra file in ZIP)
Update 2:****************

G-Funkster has actually found a way to modify the ClockOnTop files to show AM or PM, or to show nothing but the numbers. There is no 12:00 still, its 0:00 but its still an improvement over the foreign characters. You can download the files below!
Download ClockOnTop (G-Funkster Mod) (For 12-hour format with AM or PM, or no symbols at all) [NOTE: If you downloaded this file before April 21, 2007 @ 3:00PM EST/GMT-4, redownload it. It has been updated with a better looking version of the AM/PM fix. The picture above does not represent this update.]
- The AMPM folder contains the fix to show AM/PM instead of foreign characters.
- The BLANK folder contains the fix to show nothing in front of the 12-hour format.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Backup first (never hurts to backup)
2) You will need to have installed the original ClockOnTop installer (ClockOnTop) as a prerequisite. Follow the instructions in Update 1.
3) Open ActiveSync > Tools > Explore Smartphone. Double-click My Windows Mobile-Based Device in the Mobile Device window.
a. If you installed ClockOnTop on your Device, open \Program Files\ClockOnTop and replace the ClockOnTopQVGA_WM5.exe with the file in the G-Funkster Mod Zip file. Make sure to select a file from one of the folders (AMPM or BLANK) based on descriptions under download file.
-or-b. If you installed ClockOnTop on your Storage Card, open \Storage Card\Program Files\ClockOnTop and replace the ClockOnTopQVGA_WM5.exe with the file in the G-Funkster Mod Zip file. Make sure to select a file from one of the folders (AMPM or BLANK) based on descriptions under download file.
4) Reset your device! You should now see AM or PM or nothing at all with the 12-hour format.
5) That’s it. Enjoy.

I love your site–good info. About the whole Alpha keys and not needing it b/c you can dial letters now on Dash–that is a great feature, but that doesn’t help you if you need to enter letters into a voicemail system to spell names–so the dialpad photo is still useful if you need that type of functionality. I assume you can’t directly enter letters during the call and have the voicemail system recognize them right?
I installed this program on my Samsung i760 smartphone but i removed it temporarily. I noticed that when the program was removed from my system, the time is still showing up in the top bar. Why is that happening and how do i get rid of it?
